Today marks the 68th anniversary of the attack on the Moncada barracks in the city of Santiago de Cuba… Back in 1953, a group of young men and women led by Fidel Castro tried to take control of the barracks and seize its weapons to overthrow the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista… The attack failed, many were killed in the attempt, others were executed later in the barracks, and some were able to escape to the hills, like Fidel… This date is commemorated as the relaunch of the struggle for true independence from the US and from the corrupt political class that served Washington… Why is a failed armed attack marked as a national day in Cuba?....Hi, this is Cuba today.
