Achieving human rights is a constant struggle, for any country in the world… What were essential human rights demands in the 60s, might now be taken for granted by some, and those who enjoy these rights now see others as essential… This Code of Families will not solve the inequalities, the violence against women, the fact that the domestic burden is on women, and that same-sex couples face discrimination… However, it is the first step on a long ladder, that needs to be climbed every day… Gay and lesbian couples will be able to get married, adopt, or have their own children, as a traditional family can… Grandparents will be protected, especially important because sometimes they function as parents more than their children do… Children have rights, and parents should not see them as subjects that can do whatever they want…. This Code of Families made me tremendously proud, because it is the proof that in spite of all the hurdles, the conservative views, in spite of those that want to see Cuba as a failed state,
