After a week of follow-up to the first volunteers, the research team of the Cuban vaccine candidate against Covid-19 is delivering this Monday the files to the regulatory entity to request going up to the next step of the clinical trial in phase I. The first group, integrated by 20 individuals from 19 to 59 years of age, was vaccinated a week ago to evaluate the candidate's safety. According to the developers, all of them are in good health. From the headquarters of the World Health Organization in Geneva, Dr. Soumya Swaminathan explains 'herd immunity' in the context of the coronavirus pandemic. Dr. Swaminathan is an Indian paediatrician and clinical scientist known for her research on tuberculosis. She currently serves as the Chief Scientist at the World Health Organization.
